Human Trafficking
Symposium
Right Here,
Right Now!

On Sunday, January 10, 2010 many Sisters of St. Joseph and associates joined with other members of LCWR Region I, Boston Unit at a gathering to commemorate the third annual Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Over 130sisters, associates, co-workers, friends, and family took part in a prayer vigil for an end to the sin of modern-day slavery.

The date was selected because a resolution passed by the US Senate on June 22, 2007, has forever marked January 11th as a day of awareness and vigilance for the countless victims of Human Trafficking across the globe. Over half of the participants braved the January cold and stood outside the Motherhouse for part of the prayer vigil while others prayed in solidarity in Holy Family Chapel. The Vigil was hosted by the Anti-Trafficking Coalition of LCWR Boston Unit.

On April 24, 2010 this group will offer a symposium titled: Human Trafficking: Right Here, Right Now. This symposium will probe the reality of human trafficking that exists in our neighborhoods right here, right now. Presenters will address the question that haunts those who want to make a difference: What can we, as
private citizens, do to finally bring an end to this horrific crime?
