CASSERLY HOUSE

New Year… New Staff!

John Christoffersen, Ignatian Volunteer

Lindsay Morrison joined Casserly House in October as Program Administrator of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Family Engagement, working alongside our director, Donna Stiglmeier. Lindsay served in the Peace Corps from 2016 to 2018 in Comoros, East Africa. She achieved French proficiency from that experience as well as insight into why learners struggle, and the challenge of adjusting to a radically different culture. Afterward, she graduated with a Master of Arts in Teaching ESOL. Her experience spans from early childhood to adults. Most recently, Lindsay was an adjunct instructor teaching ESOL at Seminole State College in Florida.

Lindsay says she was particularly drawn to Casserly House because of its unique location within a neighborhood. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston intentionally embedded Casserly House in an immigrant neighborhood, reflecting their charism and their mission of loving the dear neighbor. Neighbors know there is help nearby to hear their concerns, especially for immigrants in a new country.

“I love that it feels like another home, like another place for connection and support,” Lindsay says. “They know that there is a door they can knock on quite literally just a few doors down from where they live.”

She says, “You can see and feel so much that all the volunteers and Donna really care about making this a place where people can actually learn and grow and achieve their dreams for their families, their neighborhood, and themselves.”
