Casserly House Summer: Inside, Out Too…

From Casserly House

Donna Stiglmeier, Casserly House Director

In collaboration with the City of Boston, nearby Viet Nam Temple, and Archdale Housing, Casserly House participated in LOVE YOUR BLOCK, a neighborhood clean-up on a sunny April 27th. Thanks also to Weesh Bake Shop, Arboretum Pizza Grill, and Dunkin for contributing food and coffee to sustain our efforts and build community!

An immigrant neighbor who will be a new ESOL volunteer sat in on the conversation club one morning and said, “There is good energy here.”

New this summer – inside Casserly House – were English conversation clubs! Lindsay Morrison, Program Administrator, welcomed adult learners to continue English language learning AND social connection. While our dedicated volunteer instructors were taking a needed rest, an energetic group of immigrants enjoyed conversation!

Indoor and outdoor family activities abounded too, with school backpacks given to 50 neighborhood children, and beforehand, a ferry trip to Spectacle Island and a Fenway Red Sox Baseball Game! One child, who was just arriving in the US this time last year, went to Hale Reservation for 5 weeks of summer camp! Planning and relationship building in the summer bear fruit all year long. Regular ESOL classes begin again September 9 with Volunteer Instructor Training September 3rd. Roslindale Porchfest is September 21. Sharing the love with our neighbors!

Three generations of family and friends visited Boston Harbor Islands for a day of swimming, picnicking, and sharing time together.

Go Sox! Casserly House neighbors cheered the Boston Red Sox thanks to the Red Sox Foundation!
