CSJ Sponsored Ministry Convocation:

Why Sponsorship? What Is Unfolding?

Communications

Maura Spignesi, Head of Fontbonne, greets Mary Ellen O’Connell, CSJ.

Corporate sponsorship of ministries is a way for the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston to extend their mission of inclusive and unifying love into the world through our partners in mission for future generations. Sponsorship is a mutually beneficial and dynamic relationship between the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston and each of the Sponsored Ministries. Each year Ministry Boards of Trustees and local leadership teams of our Corporately Sponsored Ministries gather with the CSJ Congregation Leadership Team and the CSJ Sponsored Ministry Corporation Board. The evening includes prayer, conversation, a presentation on our mission, dinner, and a missioning ceremony of each trustee and local ministry leadership team.

Sister Judith A. Carey, RSM, PhD, Facilitator/Organizational Consultant

The CSJ Corporation for Sponsored Ministries was established in 2000 to sustain the dynamic relationship of our Ministries and the Congregation. At the time, there were 14 Corporately Sponsored Ministries. Now there are five. At this year’s convocation on October 22, Judith Carey, RSM, PhD, a facilitator and organizational consultant, spoke to us about the evolution of our Sponsored Ministry model and noted that responsible stewardship calls for evaluation and simplification that will continue to provide support of the ministries and the Corporate Member to ensure ongoing mission integration.

Participants left the convocation with a plethora of information as well as many questions. Stay tuned! In the words of Denise Levertov, “So much is unfolding… so much is in bud.”¹
