FONTBONNE STUDENTS:
Enriching Soil, Enriching Hearts

On April 21st, Tuesday of vacation week, campus minister Michelle and three of her Fontbonne students arrived at the Motherhouse gardens to prepare the soil and to do a bit of planting.
The young women came prepared with gloves, shovels, and hoes. Their task was to turn the topsoil in the raised beds, add compost, and top it off with peat moss.
Service to the Dear Neighbor is a fundamental value at Fontbonne, the Early College of Boston; all students are required to complete 100 service hours to graduate (25 annually).
One of the students had a family garden in Hyde Park, so she took over when I had to leave for a meeting. After finishing the raised beds, they found their way down to the Good Shepherd Garden just outside the Motherhouse back door. Here, they turned the soil and planted tulip bulbs.
We thanked them with homemade brownies. We are all grateful to Fontbonne for the difference their students made in our gardens last week.
