In 2024, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, became one of 14 congregations of women religious from across the country, to participate in a program of the Land Justice Futures project. This two-year program works with religious communities and partners to create land transitions rooted in ecological and racial healing. It provides a justice-oriented lens through which to make decisions about how to best steward our land and property for the future.

Land justice is the practice of centering ecological, social, and racial justice in decisions about how land is used, loved, and governed by people. We see this as an opportunity to help us to take another step toward living out our commitment to live in unity with the earth and all of creation and to consider new possibilities of stewarding land in a responsible way that promotes ecological and racial justice.
