CSSJ U.S. Federation Join Others
to Protect Florida Farmworkers During COVID-19 Crisis!
by Betty Cawley, CSJ Boston Justice Promoter
In early October, the Sisters of St. Joseph Justice Promoters met virtually for their annual gathering. At the conclusion of the week, we were asked to respond to the following request:
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers, Alliance for Fair Food, and the Student/Farmworker Alliance has issued a sign-on letter to call on Florida Governor DeSantis and Collier Department of Health to protect Florida farmworkers during the COVID-19 crisis. They are asking for additional PPE, more testing, contact tracing, and economic relief for essential farmworkers. As you may remember, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers were apart of Event 2016 where we signed postcards encouraging Wendy’s to join the Fair Food Code of Conduct.
The U.S. Federation has signed onto this letter and has asked Federation justice promoters to do so in the name of their Congregations. I did sign on to this letter in all our names. This is one way we can continue to support the Immokalee Workers, as we explore other avenues to stay connected.
