Founded in 2008…
The Women’s Table (TWT), a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, is quickly approaching its eighteenth anniversary (as of 2026). Originally created to support the unique needs of women, The Women’s Table is also responsive to current and underserved needs. This includes support for mothers of children with special needs, immigrant women navigating language barriers and housing inequities, grandparents raising their grandchildren, and more as needs surface. Programs are provided free of charge, and women from diverse cultures and backgrounds are welcome to our ever-expanding table.
A generous donor who benefitted from the support of the Sisters of St. Joseph sought to broadcast their good work by providing the ‘seed money’ for this ministry. We serve approximately 100 women during the course of a year. Examples include enrichment programs such as writing workshops, days of self-care, and journaling. We host retreats, support circles and gatherings, and potluck events. Through community partnerships, we work to help alleviate food insecurity, promote individual advocacy, provide informational seminars, share referral and resource suggestions, and more.
The philosophy of The Women’s Table is straightforward:
In today’s society, women’s roles are complex, often involving multiple roles in and outside of the home. Women seek connection with others, yet have limited time for this, given the multiple demands of work and family.
The Women‘s Table recognizes a woman’s need for self-care, and strives to develop programs that promote this. Empowering women through skill development, improved self-esteem and spiritual connection provides women tools they need to sustain themselves, as well as their relationships with others.
Creating ever-widening circles of love and compassion is an integral part of The Women’s Table.
Core values of The Women’s Table include:
Compassionate presence
Hospitality
Relationship
Outreach to those in need
Respect for diversity
Empowering with dignity
Peaceful resolution of conflict
Promoting unity
