From the Office of Justice & Peace:
Prayer Service: For Immigrants

Betsy Conway, CSJ, speaking at the service.

“Bring the story inward…” Betsy Conway, CSJ, shared during the service on Tuesday, June 23. She was referring to the plight of hundreds of thousands of immigrants currently suffering in our nation, and how each and every one of us could relate. We are all children of immigrants.

Sister Betsy spoke of the important distinction between kindness and equality. Equality enables us to see the human dignity in each soul — how we are perfectly equal in God’s eyes. Kindness, although a necessity in this world, places people in an unspoken hierarchy. She shared her experience speaking at the ICE Standout on June 3rd. The organizers of the event felt that it was important that Catholic Sisters speak because, although sisters are often involved in social justice issues, their presence isn’t always as visible.

During the service, donations were collected for LUCE* and the Food Train.
