Crossroads and Thresholds

by Rachel Shea

As a participant in Parts I and II of Crossroads and Thresholds, I was privileged to share this opportunity to find a sense of meaning, purpose, and connection with other women, all seeking peace, joy, and a sense of being part of a greater whole. It was a wonderfully life-giving experience. Despite being part of a diverse group, all of us at different points in our faith journey, we shared a desire to learn new or deeper ways of thinking about God, faith, and ourselves. In an atmosphere of trust, sharing, and caring, everyone felt free to express their deepest feelings.

Kathleen Hagerty, CSJ, our presenter, has worked as a counselor, spiritual director, and a number of other things as well. She encouraged us to recognize and accept all facets of ourselves – including our darkness – as we move forward to meet our God at this later stage of our lives. She suggested that we consider where God has been present in our lives, and to reflect upon our experiences in terms of the mysteries of the rosary: joyful, sorrowful, glorious, and luminous. Her wit, wisdom, and experience make her a wonderful role model as a woman who is indeed “aging in grace.”

Whenever I attend a workshop at The Women’s Table, I always feel as if I’m coming home, due in large part to the warm, welcoming presence of Mary Rita Weschler, CSJA. As Director of The Women’s Table, she provides amazing opportunities for women.

One of the greatest joys of Crossroads and Thresholds was meeting other women who share a desire to grow in faith and self-awareness, and who see this time in our lives as one of “infinite possibilities”, as one participant so wisely stated. Another woman spoke of recognizing that it is in the people around us that we meet God; yet another reminded us that we learn so much from each other when we come together in faith. What a gift this workshop was! I think of Ram Dass’ saying: “We are all just walking each other home,” and I feel blessed and grateful to have found others to walk this journey with me.

Mission Moments at St. Joseph Prep and Fontbonne Academy

Mission Moments

Thursday, March 1, 2018, was a significant day in the history of Fontbonne Academy. The entire Fontbonne Community as well as trustees, Sisters of St. Joseph and many honored guests gathered to witness the installation of our new Head of School, Mrs. Maura Lamadore Spignesi. The ceremony took place in the new CSJ Center at Fontbonne within the context of liturgy organized by Betsy Conway, CSJ, and Ms.Amy Northrop. During the celebration, Maryann Enright, CSJ, shared about the importance of CSJ charism and mission and Maura’s dedication to both. After an inspiring message from Maura, herself, in which she shared her vision about Fontbonne and her mission, Rosemary Brennan, CSJ, asked all to join her in blessing Maura.

Crossroads and Thresholds by Rachel SheaSaint Joseph Prep and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston came together on March 19 to celebrate the Feast of Saint Joseph and honor the outgoing CSJ leadership team, who served from 2012-2018. The day also marked the dedication of the O’Toole Servery in Café Phoenix. The servery is a gift from Julie O’Toole in memory of her daughter Mary O’Toole Donahue.
